My Indiana Home / Old Fashioned Living

This is the kitty's room most of the time - for more reasons than one. Hazelhound doesn't like to go up stairs so I don't have to worry about her eating the kitty's food. The old lineoleum floor in this room is an ideal place for a litter box.

But sometimes Butterball has to share his room with guests. So I keep a big old spread over the bed to keep off cat hair and tracked litter - which comes off for company - when the whole room gets a cleaning.

Our old farmhouse is rather quirky. We don't have an upstairs bathroom - and the only bathroom in the main part of the house is through our bedroom - which used to be the kitchen. Hey, I imagine back then those folks were happy just to have indoor plumbing! We do have another bathroom but it's in the laundry room by the summer kitchen - kind of a long trek when you're sleeping upstairs in an unfamiliar house. So I've been fortunate to find various old-fashioned chamberpots and even a convalescent chair which I keep upstairs - sort of as a joke - but at least half serious!
