The trees have been breath-takingly, inexpressably beautiful this spring. Today, May Day 2008, several of us served a carry in breakfast for 125 people at Head Start - and I couldn't resist snapping pictures of a few trees on the way back to Saw Mill Run. It was my birthday gift.

I took most of these from inside my car - or in other situations not allowing much time for setup. But even when a picture isn't of prime photographic quality, they still capture so much that's a shame to throw away. My Aunt Firma was a painter who often painted redbuds - I like to take pictures like these and transform them into digital "paintings."

One evening my daughter left to go out with a friend and called a few minutes later on her cell. "Go out and look at that huge turtle on the road." I rushed out our front door. By that time, a mother and two teens had stopped and were trying to keep it from getting run over. They had shoo'ed it into my neighbor's yard. They said there were actually two turtles and one was already in the back of their pick-up truck. The young man had thrown his sweat jacket over the turtle, but it was a bit small - so I brought over an old quilt. Several days later he brought the quilt back and said he took the turtles down to the creek and they swam off and that maybe they would live another hundred years.

I had gone to a grant writing class in June at the SIA training center - this was a part of SIA's facility that I'd never seen when I worked there with Product Action a couple of years ago.
