I'm not sure what these trees are called - I think some call them Magnolia trees and some call them Tulip trees - but the real Tulip trees have a greeny orangey flower that is shaped more like a tulip. Anyway, whatever they are, they have been absolutely GORGEOUS this spring. Took mine a little longer to bloom out than the ones in town. :)

Spring on the Farm

Spring on the Farm

Spring on the Farm - here are my peonies coming up. I've weeded and heeded and manured and bone-mealed them for our first two years - even watered them last summer during the drought. I wonder if they'll bloom this year?

Prospering Peonies 2008 - woo hoo! Thanks to my neighbor and a coworker for the great advice!

Horse Hitch Flower Bed 2008 - Benny and I enlarged and edged this flower bed one sunny Saturday - and I about got sunstroke. We haven't had many sunny days in May! Been great for planting though.

Thriving Clematis 2008. Benny inadvertently chopped it off last year while weed eating. He came in and said sheepishly, "I chopped off your pretty clematis." Turned out to be good for it during the drought!

My Shade Garden 2008 - I relocated lots of violets and planted some new perennials.

I unexpectedly lost my job this spring, so I had some extra time to do some heavy duty spring cleaning and landscaping inbetween job-hunting. It was great! I hadn't really had a week's vacation for almost two years and I had never had an uninterrupted period of more than 3 days to stay at home and work on the house since we moved here in 2005. I did get to stay home for a month during Benny's heart surgery in January 2006 for which we were both grateful - but that was different.

I was on the east coast for two weeks to visit family - when I returned my peonies were in bloom.

No pix of birds this spring - I moved the feeder out under the tree so I could hang the hummingbird feeder by the kitchen window. However, I actually held a cedar waxwing and a kinglet sparrow in my hand all in the same day. We'd had quite a storm the night before - and it blew these babies out of their nests. Fortunately they were ready to fly. The tiny Kinglet was perched on the coils of our garden hose - surveying the world, while the parents hovered nearby. I don't know if it was the right thing to do - but I picked him up and put him up on a tree branch (we have a cat). He seemd to appreciate being up higher. He was as small as a hummingbird (I know because I picked one up a few years ago that had gone into torpor when Buddy caught him. I removed him from Buddy's mouth and he revived and flew away).

The waxwing let me pick him up - but suddenly discovered he could fly quite well - so maybe I helped him! And later the same day, I saw a young mourning dove standing uncertainly under the feed - he also could fly quite well!
